For months, a large portion of the world has been singing along to “Mamiii,” Becky G and Karol G’s long-awaited collaboration that debuted at number one on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs list in February.
The song, a blistering rebuke to lousy boyfriends and loser ex-girlfriends, is already a smash hit, but the two musicians have recently done something utterly unexpected by releasing a video that doesn’t involve either of them. Instead, they handed the cameras over to Mia Khalifa and Angus Cloud of Euphoria.
Mike Ho directed the video, which shows Khalifa and a girlfriend smashing up a ritzy apartment owned by Cloud, who portrays a love interest who betrayed her and now has to pay the price. While Cloud is at a restaurant, she smashes a couple of his belongings, and her companion finally breaks into his room with another guy, where they broadcast the whole affair. Ovy on the Drums, a reggaeton regular, produced the song, which features elements of Mexican melodies over a popeton groove.
In March of 2021, Karol G released her third studio album, KG0516, which garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Msica Urbana Album. Becky G has just confirmed that she will act with Megan Fox and Dove Cameron in Machine Gun Kelly’s directorial debut, Good Mourning. She recently performed the viral song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” at the Oscars with the cast of Encanto.
