Instant JJ Drops Thrilling New Track ‘Lately’
After penning a number of R&B songs akin to his earlier compositions ‘Emotional’ and ‘Insane’, and with the release of his brand-new single “Lately,” Instant JJ has at last joined that toxic song trend! When you were inebriated and texting an old love or even an ex, do you remember that feeling? “Lately” means just that. The unpleasant but entertaining side of Instant JJ’s work.
“This song has been one of my journey’s more thrilling moments. I’ve been trying to think of a way to make toxic interesting. which presents a challenge for me as I couldn’t be more the opposite. How can I make this song enjoyable and upbeat? I still wanted to express how much I missed you, but not how much I loved you. So I combined some of my real-life experiences with a bit of my favorite song, ‘Brandy’! The hardest thing I had to do was to keep from oversinging the song.”
“My typical love songs are nothing like ‘Lately’. Even coming up with the instrumental was challenging for me. I find that having to wear the producer hat puts me in a completely different frame of mind. Countless hours have been spent trying to find a groove that makes me dance after hearing the first note. I took a step back and waited for inspiration before coming up with the best idea! Browse my collection and listen to some of my earlier instrumentals in an effort to spark inspiration, and guess what? It succeeded! When this happens, I usually check my voice memos on my phone to see if there are any tunes I’ve hummed or beatboxed while driving, shopping, taking a shower, or even on the toilet. I discovered my trigger in a previous publication of mine, ‘Party Over Here, or POH’. I started revising as soon as I realized how many ideas I had for this particular instrumental.
