Is This Paradise? by Transtec: Review
The electro rock duo Transtec from The Netherlands have come together with their most-promised spacey electronic rock album “Is This Paradise?” After a brief hiatus back in 2019, artists Robin den Drijver and Wouter den Engelsman have marched on to experiment with their eccentric and dynamic styles and instrumental expertise and channel all their passion into this album.
The album’s title track opens with distorted electronic sounds, then there are percussion and layered voices. On a more unprecedented note, “Born on a Mountain (Never Got High)” leaves you feeling unsettled with its creepy that accompanies the chilling conveying of lyrics. “Catacomb” is no less than that, following further electronic distortion and synth waves that build the climax with a montage. When the player proceeds to “Hot Headed” there’s grasping composition that will catch you by surprise. Befitting its essence, the number “Dreams” and “Some Light” were two of the highlights for me in this album. The latter plays more melodically, altering the atmosphere with its calmer progression. “I Was Someone” is an intense play from the very first second, something alt-rock fans may appreciate. Lastly, “Once More with Feeling” might be the perfect ending that brings back the eerie sensation, in this album. With minimal vocalization, it sounds like the post-credit scene, which leaves off with a cliffhanger, making you look forward to the next projects of Transtec.
The band comes with an original approach in their composition and musical exploration through proof of carefully constructed and progressive chords. And for a lot of you, this is the first step into a new, uncharted musical territory that blurs traditional boundaries.
