Dani Hagan enthralls with her latest rock and roll EP, “Kissing You.” She makes us relate to her own experiences and showcases her fierce attitude, inspiring us to follow her lead. Each track on this EP offers a unique facet of the complex landscape of connection.
The introductory track with the same name, “Kissing You,” sets the stage with a blues-rock vibe. Hagan’s voice hisses with a sultry sharpness like a luscious instrument. She seduces us with her melodic guitar and rhythmic drums and intoxicates us while showing us her vulnerable tempted side. The lyrics echo the thrill and danger of succumbing to desire, making for a captivating opening.
“Anywhere But Home” stands out as the core of the EP, as she embodies the rebellious and carefree spirit of rock and Hagan herself. Thumping drums, slithering guitar riffs, and Hagan’s powerhouse vocals converge to create an anthem of anticipation and rebellion.
In “I Lose It,” we find it hard to resist falling for Hagan’s soft vocals as she resists falling in love herself. Hagan showcases a softer side with a higher, delicate, and more ethereal-sounding pitch. The guitar enchantingly complements her passionate and expressive confessional lyricism.
“Good Guy” is a high-energy rock and romance anthem. Hagan’s rich vocals are intense and fired up with passion. The EP concludes with the rock ballad “Too Much.” Hagan’s voice is tinged with pain and aching as she grapples with the challenges of keeping a lover who doesn’t meet her halfway. The guitar soars with her, complementing her pain with the wall of immersive agony.
