Kwabena Agyemang’s spoken word album Epiphany is a profound journey that carries poetry, music, and Ghanaian rhythms to feel the depth of Jesus’ love and sacrifice. Each track builds an emotional narrative, rich with themes of faith, redemption, and the transcendent love of Christ.
The opening track, “Transfigured,” sets a powerful tone. Accompanied by gentle piano and an ambient, ethereal background, Kwabena recounts the stories of three prophets. With a reverent tone, he elevates Jesus as the culmination of their legacies, each of whom fulfilled God’s will, pointing toward Jesus as the ultimate figure of devotion and reverence.
“Blink (Gasp)” is a gripping cinematically realistic track that begins with the sound of a car crash, quickly followed by police sirens and an ambulance—a vivid auditory prelude to a life-or-death moment. Kwabena’s words are urgent as he describes the desperation of a soul teetering between life and death. With the poet’s refrain acting as an angel, urging the patient to “blink” and “gasp,” he captures a powerful image of life ending too soon for humans to make a change.
In the follow-up to “Blink (Gasp),” “Blink (Light Has Come)” shifts from tension to peaceful release. The track captures the essence of crossing into eternal life. Sounds of nature—a babbling stream and birdsong—paint a serene afterlife as Kwabena recites verses filled with hope. “Light has come,” he declares, signifying entry into a higher plane of existence, free from worldly pain and struggle, a glimpse of heaven illuminated by divine grace.
Epiphany concludes with “Hail Him,” featuring guest vocals from CFC-KNUST. The track opens with delicate, sparkling piano notes and evolves into a celestial chorus, where voices softly repeat, “Hail, hail Jesus.” Kwabena reflects on the life of Jesus, His betrayal, and His ultimate purpose as both Son and manifestation of God.
For pious Christians, there could be no better album to feel close to God than Kwabena Agyemang’s Epiphany. Check it out on Spotify.
