La Belle Epoque,’ directly translating to ‘The Beautiful Era’ in French, refers to a settled, well-made, and comfortable lifestyle prior to World War I. Now how does this relate to Young Forbes’ single going by the same name? Well, La Belle Epoque was The Golden Age of Europe, when it made the most significant cultural changes. In the case of Young Forbes, we can conclude La Belle Epoque refers to his own Golden Age, with new money and newfound success after having left and lost people recently.
La Belle Epoque is a sleek alternative and synth pop song with smooth guitar play rumbling the track and a whisper following the string play turning the tune of the music. He breathes: “You look like you have seen a ghost!” It’s a direct reference to his success, and he’s pointing it directly at the ones who didn’t believe in him and left him when he had nothing. The electric guitar stays persistent throughout the song, and the EDM beats soon come together to accompany the synth flow of La Belle Epoque.
Drawing inspiration from Lil Wayne, Drake, Future, and Xxxtentacion, Young Forbes has developed a succinct way of rapping in his single, with each syllable hitting clearly on the mic and his low voice coming off clean and sharp. The sharpness hones on the confidence while the clean music in the background reflects his mental state that he has moved on and is finally in a good place, or rather in his La Belle Epoche.
