Larry Karpenko’s new single, “Ladybug Field,” recorded at Kreation Records Studio in Loma Linda and released this year, reflects on wonder, presence, and rediscovery. Remembering watching his children play among hundreds of ladybugs in a park, the track transforms a fleeting family moment into a meditation on belonging, joy, and the sacredness of everyday life. Drawing on influences from U2’s expansive atmospheres to Eric Clapton’s soulful guitar phrasing, Karpenko comes as an intimate and timeless track that weaves soft rock warmth with spiritual undercurrents.
The track opens with shimmering, immersive tones that glisten like sunlight across open fields, while gentle percussion jitters lightly underneath. Karpenko’s tender, emotive vocals enter softly, soothing and passionate. His voice gets you leaning into the contemplative space. The guitar solo, recorded directly through a Fender Telecaster without pedals or amps, comes across raw and unfiltered, echoing Clapton’s melodic sensitivity, with a disarming honesty of its own.
Lyrically, “Ladybug Field” moves between innocence and longing, with lines like, “Little feet dancing through your fingers / Little voices singing to your song,” portraying childhood wonder as sacred reminders of connection. He also sings, “Carry us, a cry for your assistance / In your space is where we want to be,” to suggest a yearning for safety alongside a spiritual invocation for presence and grounding. The recurring chorus, “Ladybug Field you’re so surprising, energizing, mesmerizing,” doubles as both celebration and incantation, a reminder of how nature’s smallest details can renew the soul.
