French independent artist Noctæra has finally unveiled her long-awaited debut album, Legacy of Marble, released after more than a year of careful crafting. Known for overseeing every aspect of her projects, from writing to production to video design, she brings artistry and precision to the same mix. Drawing on influences from indie folk, medieval music, and even splashes of metal and electro, Noctæra is intimate and stylistically daring. She goes borderless with French and English lyrics mixed, while the production keeps emotion in the foreground, giving space for instruments to breathe.
The title track, “Legacy of Marble”, opens with slow, heavy guitars and soft, weighted beats, immediately setting a contemplative tone. Noctæra’s tender and fragile voice rises like mist above the dense instrumentation, creating an intimate and monumental atmosphere, like tracing one’s fingers across ancient stone. Then, further along, “Kept Me Bound” shifts gears. Here, her voice begins in a low, whispery register, almost hesitant, before the song erupts with bustling drums and gritty guitars. The strings soar, her vocals follow suit, and the track takes the listener from restraint to release in a heartbeat.
But perhaps the most delicate moment comes with “Pas le Bruit du Vent”, where Noctæra leans into her folk roots. Over soothing piano and gentle guitar strums, her voice floats with controlled softness, calculated yet emotional, almost like a spell cast in the hush of twilight. It’s in these spaces that the duality of her music truly shines, anchored in restraint yet constantly threatening to burst into grandeur.
All in all, Legacy of Marble debuts with ambitious, emotional, and atmospheric styling to suit Noctæra’s multidisciplinary vision. Check it out on Spotify.
