Love Is Not A Choice by Emma Hunter: Review
They say, “Love knows no reason, no boundaries, no distance. It has a sole intention of bringing people together to a time called forever”. It doesn’t have to be Pride Month to celebrate queer love in all of its forms, free of judgments, measurements, or labels. Love is love. It is essential to see past such mental obstacles and societal conventions in order to embrace love for what it is. That is the premise of English singer-songwriter Emma Hunter’s latest single, “Love is not a choice.”
” Love Is Not A Choice,” in her imagination, is the second installment of the secret love story from her previous song, “Nightingale.” Hunter and her trusted collaborator, drummer Tom Bruce, continue to paint their distinct aural environment with yet another dark, flamenco-inspired piece of music. The vocal performance is smooth and alluring, complementing the song’s exotic melodies that are woven throughout. They were able to infuse the mix with a mystical and hypnotic atmosphere using layers of vocals and bass that they produced with a looper. Flexible drumbeats underpin the song’s flow and propel it through a number of twists and turns, while demanding the full attention of the audience. There’s no denying that the Latin vibes give the whole song a seductive, cinematic feel.
This is simply the first track from Hunter’s upcoming EP, which is set to be released in the fall. With what they’ve shown thus far, we can’t wait to see what the duo has in store for us next.
