Love you just for you by John McDonough: Review
John McDonough was a renowned figure in the Texas music industry, where he performed for 25 years, before moving to Chicago, Illinois. The musician recently revealed his charming Americana track “Love you just for you.”
His most recent EP, “We’ll answer the call,” was inspired by the heroic quest of Joe Rant to win the boat rowing gold medal at the Olympics. This song is a tribute to the romance that he shared with the woman who would become his wife and life partner, Joyce Simdars. The two met in high school and have stayed together through thick and thin ever since. There is an ingenuous, unguarded sense in John’s vocals that effortlessly delivers the storytelling to the listeners. The acoustic guitar, piano, and bass that accompany it are all great complements. Overall, the laid-back beat and earthy folk and country ingredients kept the song grounded and heartwarming, like a safe haven from trouble. Although John McDonough acknowledged that writing love songs was not his favorite genre, he did an incredible job of capturing the deep connection between these soulmates.
Quotable lyrics:
“And I will never let you go”, she says
“One day we’ll have a nice warm home
A couple kids playing at our feet
And I’ll add the harmony when you sing.”
In the course of five songs from the EP, the rest of the heartwarming story was presented in more detail. It’s available on all the major streaming services if you want to check it out.
