If you have ever been in a codependent relationship, โLoverโs Highโ by Giu will hit you like a hard hangover concussion. Codependency is a term used to be solely meant for alcoholics relying on alcohol as an intense form of addiction. However, things have changed, and we know thereโs something more addictive than alcohol in this world. Love has been defined as the worldโs most addictive drug, and in โLoverโs High,โ Giu sings about tryna feel alright by taking turns with the bottle and the tears. She simplifies her previous correlation in the first verse with drinking and love with her line: Shoot me up with your love/make me feel sane.
With upfront vocals and minimal backup with instrumentals and a mediating synth wave, itโs easier for Giu to make her words hit more poignantly on an emotional level. The vulnerability comes across more vividly as the synth wave flows lower in the background. As evocative as Giuโs voice is, the dreaminess of the track reminds us of the production style of Billie Eilish.
Loverโs High has also merged pop-rock elements by accompanying drums, cymbals, and electric guitar with the synth. All of this is great, but the fact that Giu wrote, sang, mixed, and produced the whole music alone is quite a feat, for the song came out sounding professional and poignant.
Giu released Loverโs High, her new single, on the 10th of March this year, and it has already garnered over a thousand listens on Spotify. Nowโs your turn to feel the Loverโs High.
