Memories by Audreal Gillett: Review

Meeting the right person at the wrong time makes it difficult to move on. It leaves you with a great number of haunting regrets and recurring thoughts of “what if.” Audreal Gillett, a Portland-based musician, offers us a beautiful composition titled “Memories” that explores the topic based on her own experience.

The song’s creation combines elements of rock and EDM with indie synth pop to produce a fresh and contemporary sound. Gillett’s voice is light and ethereal, floating above a rising melody and captivating rhythms, pulling listeners out of their own worlds and taking them to an ecstatic musical experience. The song is heavily reverberated in the production, mirroring the memories that find their way into your life whether you want them to or not. It’s got a great bounce to it, and the contrast between the upbeat production and the somber lyrics is fascinating. “It’s about wishing you met this person at a different time in your life. At a time when you were more healed and had the time to grow and learn from your past mistakes”, Gillett shared, “Acknowledging the love that you had for this person and all the beautiful and irreplaceable memories that you once shared with each other. Finally, realizing how much you’ve grown from it and learned to love yourself along the way.”

Aureal Gillett has a solo career as a singer, composer, and producer, but she also plays in a 7-piece hip-hop/jazz/funk band called “Light Bright” and shines in both roles. Keep an eye on Gillett’s musical career.
