Monster Hits by Square Tugs: Album Review
On November 4, 2022, Square Tugs released their debut album, “Monster Hits,” a punk rock band with their 16-track album, they begin their journey in 2020. As a result, they have been in high demand ever since, and their debut album has just been released to a large audience. The band is Davey Tug on guitar, with Bad Ronald, Ringpull, Strange Stains, and Roughriders on back vocals; General Waste on drums and vocals; and Paulie Tug on bass.
The band’s deep affection for punk rock is reflected in this album, which includes tracks in a variety of punk rock subgenres, such as pop-punk, and hardcore punk rock. In addition to the many distinct subgenres of punk music, the lyrical content is also extremely diverse, ranging from humorous lyrics to more serious ones.
The first few seconds of “I wanna be the minority” sound like it is from one of the Green Day songs “Minority,”. “I wanna be minority” begins with distorted guitar fillers, and then everything enters at once. It’s a high-energy song with punk-rockish vocals and instrumentation, and it serves as the album’s introduction.
The fifth track, “Drag Queen Dad,” starts off with high-gain, energetic instruments, and the whole track is jumpy and fun. The song was heavily inspired by The Ramones, the fast drumming and riffing along with the vocals made the song very punkish and a bit garage rockish.
The band Square Tugs has portrayed the punk genre in an amazing way, and all listeners, especially punk fans, will thoroughly enjoy their album. It’s a new avenue of experimenting with the punk genre on their own terms.
