Toronto-based Singer, songwriter, producer, and piano player, John Conlin, has released a synth-driven pop gem, “Months and Months” this Oct 27. Expect to hear a lot of ABBA, Lady Gaga, and Queen in Conlin’s sad banger beat.
The song opens with an enticing buildup that promises a pulse of energy. Lush synths create an immersive atmosphere, paving the way for the pulsating 4-on-the-floor beat to make their entrance. As Conlin begins to sing, his voice is catchy and highly expressive leading into the infectious hook. It perfectly complements the synths and danceable beat, creating a vibrant and catchy sound. That being said, “Months and Months” is reminiscent of the “Heartbreak on the Dancefloor” anthems of the early 2010s. It embodies the essence of pop music that can get a crowd moving.
In “Months and Months,” Conlin delves into the emotional rollercoaster of a past love interest attempting to reenter your life after months of healing. Conlin paints a vivid picture of the struggle to resist falling back into that familiar but ultimately toxic embrace. Lines like “You’d fight to come back and probably win/I’d feel so pathetic that you’re back again” get you remembering the push and pull of your old flame.
The production is spot-on, with Olle Romo providing the perfect backdrop for Conlin’s vocals. The song’s clean mix allows each element to shine while maintaining a cohesive sound that’s ready for radio play.
