Mourning Pages by Scarlet Joy: Album Review
Scarlet Joy commences their uplifting rock album โMourning Pagesโ with elements of grunge and alternative rhythms. The band has a straightforward approach to songwriting, and the melodic arrangements are simply marvelous. From the distortion-heavy guitar lines pertaining to a fuzzy tone, and a mysterious singer elegantly carrying the album forward, โMourning Pagesโ is gripping from start to finish. Scarlet Joy is led by vocalist and guitarist Sophia Woodcraft, bassist Tom Latham, and drummer Drew Moore. According to the band. their album addresses themes of love, grief, hope, and destiny.
โMourning Pagesโ opens up with the beautifully crafted โLost at Seaโ and โRescue.โ Both tracks are emotionally charged with serene vocal lines and sensational bass bits. Honestly, the synergy between each instrumentation is incredible. They mix the power of alternative rock and bring in the grounded sensation of grunge. Later on, we witness a softer side of the band in the tune โQueen and Thiefโ, where a peaceful aura comes forth. With subtle guitar chords and resonating bass pieces, the singer initiates an almost ambient atmosphere in this emotional pull of a track.
In โKiss It All Goodbyeโ, the rhythm section is remarkably groovy. The bass takes the center stage and allows a very moody tension to grow. The songwriting here was truly captivating, and the singing portions had an incredible flow with impressive variations. Nearing the end of the album, the song โGoldenโ emanated a musical warmth. Indeed, the tune had a lovely cadence, especially from the acoustic guitar.
