Zoe Bayani has released her latest single and the first peek into her upcoming album, “My Dog.” Only having released it on Dec 15, we find a dynamic blend of Americana, pop, and ending with a burst of indie rock in “My Dog.”
“My Dog” starts with a serene Americana atmosphere, featuring distant guitar strumming that sets a contemplative tone. Zoe Bayani’s vocals immediately capture attention, delivering the opening lines, “Do I look familiar in your beholding eye / do you see the beauty that you had known as just a child?” with a rich, emotive voice that carries a melancholy and introspection.
As the song progresses, it builds on the pondering emotion conveyed in the lyrics. The poignant line “I often feel like a ghost story waiting to happen” adds depth to the introspective narrative.
Bayani sings with a melancholic and emotive trail in her rich, luscious voice thick with emotion. We mark the shift in dynamics when the drums enter and elevate the emotional intensity. The climax, with the powerful declaration, “I hope you take it fine / and I’ll see you the day my dog dies,” showcases Bayani’s powerful vocals.
Clairo, Lizzy McAlpine, or boygenius inspire her music that culminates in a collision of pounding drums and driving guitars, bringing an indie rock sound to the song.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind “My Dog,” Bayani tells us it’s about her loved ones. You might be wondering what all of this has anything to do with a “dog?” The singer says this metaphor conveys her stubborn decisions and contrarian choices.
As we previously stated, “My Dog” is only the lead single from her forthcoming debut album. Zoe Bayani has more hidden in her sleeves that she will slowly pull out before the full album’s release. So you can expect her to pop more singles very soon. If you are interested, stay tuned!
