OCTAVIA FREUD & THE WEIRD SISTERS’ latest single, “My Future,” offers a compelling and modern interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic tale, Macbeth. Crafted by electronic producer Octavia Freud, the song delves into ambition, greed, and self-deception, transporting us to the gritty world of 90s Manchester nightclubs and the city’s tumultuous history.
Drawing inspiration from Manchester’s musical legacy, the track pulsates with acidic and hypnotic LCD Soundsystem-style synth lines, over dreamy chiming. Martin Andrews delivers his vocals with a hazy, hypnotic, entrancing quality, perfectly embodying the character of Macbeth as a 90s nightclub owner caught in a web of delusion.
The chorus refrain, delivered with deadpan bluntness, becomes an earworm, with its memorable lyrics reflecting Macbeth’s own doubts and fears looping nonstop and echoing Macbeth’s disbelief in the prophecy of the Weird Sisters. Kate Hicks’s backing vocals add a soulful and grieving touch, enhancing the emotional depth of the track.
Together, Octavia Freud & The Weird Sisters create a captivating musical experience that transcends traditional genre boundaries with their electronic, indie, and dance music blend to craft a unique and immersive sound.
“My Future” is only the first single from OCTAVIA FREUD & THE WEIRD SISTERS’ upcoming album, Mancbeth. So mark the date for May 31 for the day of the big release. Also, stay tuned to find this exciting literary storytelling masterpiece along with other tracks from the album visually represented. Catch them live as a musical at Modern Art Oxford on April 20!
