My Superstitions by Kelsey Blackstone: Review
Kelsey Blackstone is a singer and songwriter whose goal is to use music as a medium to encourage and inspire people all around the world. Kelsey produces one-of-a-kind melodies for each piece, evoking the musical genres of the 1960s and 1970s while also incorporating modern tones that place her in the context of the modern environment. Kelsey’s track “My Superstitions” is an intergalactic funk mix. It’s filled with electrifying rhythm sections, jazzy arrangements, and a groovy beat. Everything feels like a brilliant combination, this is because Kelsey’s sensational vocal range compliments the instrumentation beautifully.
First of all, that is one stellar rhythm section man! Funky guitar chords in the style of disco, and then there’s that killer bass line that is reminiscent more of nu-disco music! Add all that into the hotpot mix with some spicy lines from the saxophone and you’ve got yourself a legend-wait for it-dary melody. Kelsey’s voice is very smooth, and she’s able to pull off excellent vibratos and a clean run within the longer vocal spreads. Her lyricism is quite profound, and overall it is a truly magnificent song to hear and understand.
The entirety of the song is a genre blend between jazz, disco, funk, and pop. It is an interesting cohesion indeed, and Kelsey’s presence on the track is absolutely captivating! The way her voice rises in certain transitions is truly amazing, and overall I had an incredible time listening to her fire track “My Superstitions”
