Canada’s heaviest rising force, OMENS, isn’t slowing down after the thunderclap of their 2024 debut OMENS, which cemented them as one of the most exciting new names in hard rock and metal. With over 400,000 YouTube views and thousands of subscribers hanging onto every drop, the band has now set their sights on OMENS II, a record being released in serialized fashion, one single at a time. First came the savage “Any Means,” and now “You’ve Got a Hold on Me” has arrived to turn up the voltage.
Where “Any Means” was pure battle cry, this latest cut dives into darker, sweat-slick territory. Built on a monster riff that snarls with distorted grit, the track drives forward on Don Jacks’s relentless drum patterns, each hit like a pulse of danger. Mike Keller’s guitar tone is as raw as sandpaper, dragging the song into the underbelly of a neon-drenched night. Holding it all together is bassist Mike Onufreychuk, whose low end gives the whole thing its brooding, midnight swagger.
But it’s Trev Tuminski’s vocal that really sets the track aflame. Singing with a raspy, weathered grit, he sounds possessed by equal parts desire and desperation. Every line crackles with urgency, like a man breathless from the chase, veins burning with the rush of lust and risk. It’s less a love song than a fever dream, an ode to that dizzying moment when the night tilts, cocktails blur the edges, and a stranger’s glance feels like gravity itself.
By the time the chorus kicks in, it’s impossible not to shout along. Catchy without losing its menace, “You’ve Got a Hold on Me” shows OMENS stacking layers onto their growing mythos. If this is just the beginning of OMENS II, the ride ahead is going to be wild.
