Dirty Freud’s latest single, “Prints,” is a haunting, bass-heavy exploration of legacy and the indelible marks we leave behind. This atmospheric track, released on October 10th via No Such Thing Records, features the unique fusion of deep, driving beats and ethereal soundscapes that Dirty Freud is known for. “Prints” opens with pounding, industrial drums, layered with Jonno Allen’s playful yet ominous saxophone melodies, setting a dark, cinematic tone.
Ruby Tingle’s vocals enter smoothly, rich, and powerful, her voice carrying a mysterious, gothic energy that evokes dark introspection as she sings with a theatrical flair. Her open, echoing soprano lends an air of ghostly grandeur while the music pulsates beneath her haunting performance; the harmonies hover eerily, enhancing the song’s hypnotic, almost fictitiously alluring atmosphere. The soundscape is textured, with electronic pulses and haunting echoes weaving through, creating an immersive experience that unsettles and captivates.
Danni Skerritt, the mastermind behind Dirty Freud, describes Prints as a meditation on the traces we leave in our wake—an introspective theme that resonates through every brooding beat and shadowy note imprinting our souls through the eardrums. This single is the second of two releases in 2024. And what’s up is Dirty Freud’s upcoming debut album with more of their genre-bending, shape-shifting sounds. So stay tuned.
