Bronx-based artist PTPB makes us relate hard with his latest release, “LIAR” about relationships, deception, and self-delusion. Having released last Fall, it emotionally captures the season’s specialty: the leftovers of Summer’s high.
“LIAR” opens with an immersive synth exploration that sets the stage for PTPB’s rich and emotive vocals. The gushing synth disappears to let the artist’s voice take center stage with the growing pulse, introducing a vulnerability that draws the listener into the narrative.
As the song progresses, it evolves into a pulsating pop anthem, with the beats sharpening and intensifying against the floor. This musical progression enhances the immersive quality of the track, making it both inundating and engaging. PTPB’ delivers each line with sincerity, ensuring that every word is heard and felt.
The standout line, “Now I have seen you with that other guy you say you never knew/And I told everyone it was nothing, I defended you,” encapsulates how crushing deception and betrayal can be. The character acknowledges the lies he told to protect his illusion of happiness.
Anecdotal lines like “When you’d forget my birthday I’d go buy the gifts wrap them up post them like they all just came from you/Say I don’t have an addiction but I do and I don’t know how to quit you, and that’s true self-inflicted illusion ’cause when I think I’m walking away I’m walking back to you” showcase the delusions that storm through our narrator and hit a cord with us too.
As PTPB continues to release singles across hip-hop, R&B, and pop, “LIAR” pulls us towards its addictive beats.
