Waverly, helmed by the one-man show Phil Galloni, is back with a bang, unleashing his second single and title track, โPush My Luck,โ from his upcoming EP of the same name.
From the get-go, โPush My Luckโ turns out to be a catchy scorcher. With thumping drums and jamming guitars driving the rhythm forward, you canโt help but tap your feet and nod your head along to the infectious beat.
Frontman Phil Galloniโs vocals are thick and rich, carrying a sense of melancholy and regret as he explores the theme of pushing oneโs luck too far in a relationship. The lyrics hit home as Galloniโs voice echoes with a glassiness that brings out the nostalgia of the music. He reflects on the impulsive and reckless decisions and actions we all make in love, hoping against hope thinking they will never leave.
The tight and dynamic instrumentals of โPush My Luckโ find their match with ethereal and wispy frivolous backing vocals contrasting the song, as they crooning against the rush, balancing it with an atmospheric haze. Interestingly, they also evoke the nonchalant, laidback and reckless vibe of the context. To top it off, the gritty guitar solo in the bridge becomes the cherry on top with their bending and grinding drifts.
So mark your calendars to find Waverly Drive more uptempo than ever with their EP Push My Luck dropping on May 10. You might also push your luck for the LA live tour dates at Genghis Cohen on May 9 and The Slipper Clutch on May 17.
