QUESTIONS by hyyypnos: EP Review
The essence of Indie-pop is astounding in hyyypnos’ EP “QUESTIONS”, a five-song collection guaranteed to strike a vibe. Each melody in this mix has a pleasant cadence where synth beats and a poetic singer grace the mic. Without a shadow of a doubt, the artist’s ability to create dream pop is on point. In that regard, it creates an ideal mood to just sit back and let the music hit you.
“QUESTIONS” has a diversity of genres present in it, but the main aspect of Indie-pop stays true. Hyyypnos shows us the vastness of their melodic talents from the trippy opening number “do you believe?”, to the funky basslines of “what happened to us?”, and it’s a thrilling experience from start to finish. The artist has a distinct vocal style that draws inspiration from shoegaze and a bit of alt-pop too. It’s pretty ethereal in my opinion, especially when their voice merges with the synthesizers. When that occurs, a delightful psychedelic aura is formed.
The EP definitely has tasty instrumental bits that take it up a notch. For instance, in the third track “didn’t i?” a smooth guitar piece represents the main rhythm, and it has some similarities with neo-soul. Altogether, what keeps each song in check is the singer’s allure. Their voice has a splendid tone that pertains to a higher pitch. It mixes beautifully with each instrumental segment and forms a magical connection worth remembering.
