Selfish Bodies Release Powerful Single Hideous
Selfish Bodies, a band from Edmonton, has just released their newest tune ‘Hideous’ on January 13, 2023, which is a real and emotional representation of the challenges and divisions people have experienced along with the shared collective struggles throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. The song is a blend of alt-rock and pop with synth-heavy production, and has been critically acclaimed by several outlets.
The group includes lead vocalist Brandy Sharpe, pianist and backup vocalist Michelle Bessette, guitarist and backup vocalist Garrett Jette. After meeting through a Kijiji ad, Brandy and Michelle launched Selfish Bodies in 2018. Since then, the band’s music has been significantly affected by adversity and hardship, which they convey via their music.
Although the band has not yet performed at any noteworthy concerts, festivals, or events, they have gotten positive reviews from a number of music media. Canadian Musician Magazine characterized their sound as “The impact and eerie energy of Muse and Silversun Pickups meet the undeniable hooks of Mother Mother, The 1975, and Of Monsters and Men with a lot more tied in for good measure.”
“Hideous” was recorded at Velveteen Music in Edmonton, with Brandon Unis and Robbie Townsend serving as producers. The single also contains “Bambi Legs,” their previous single as the B-side. The double single has a pop sheen, but the band’s alt-rock edge is still present.
The band’s mission is to provide music that expresses their capacity to connect with one another. They believe that their music is the best outlet for expressing their emotions. This mindset is exemplified by the song “Hideous,” which is a candid representation of how people have interacted during the pandemic.
Ultimately, “Hideous” is a strong and evocative song that conveys the hardships that many individuals have endured during the pandemic. The single by Selfish Bodies is a must-listen for fans of alt-rock and pop, as its infectious hooks and powerful vocals will leave listeners wanting more.
