Oregon-based songwriter Keith A. Getchell has reimagined his decades-old song “Send Your River” with a stunning new rendition on the “REDUX2.” This coming-home R&B song has gone from literally addressing the composer’s home in Portland to the home within himself, like a river winding towards its mouth.
Recorded all over ItyDity, Ryan Stockbridge, and Sundown Sessions Studio, “Send Your River REDUX2” begins with soothing, shimmering instrumentals that flow like a gentle river, setting a serene and immersive atmosphere. The swirling blows bring elements of vintage whimsy while the soft beat provides a grounding rhythm that complements the ethereal soundscape.
Although we don’t know the star of the show, which is the vocalist, I bet if you hear the voice anywhere ever again, you will find her. Because that’s just how much of a one-of-a-kind voice that is. Her deep, thick voice drips with sensual passion, akin to raw honey. She sings with an intensity that conveys vulnerability and strength. Her range is impressive, reaching falsetto highs in the bridge that elevate the song to an emotional climax. It’s just as you would expect from a living journey turned art.
The lyrics of “Send Your River REDUX2” are sensual and sincere, telling the autobiography of self-discovery and acceptance. The context behind the music is Getchell’s LGBTQ identity and his lifelong loneliness, starting from his conservative Baptist family in rural Boring, Oregon, then to the U. S. Navy and all the way to his 60s where Getchell now has everything secured.
Listen to “Send Your River REDUX2” and Keith A. Getchell help you feel right at home with the calming, reflective waters it so beautifully represents.
