Denmark-based indie pop artist Sasha Adrian presents a deeply personal journey with her sophomore EP Shell, released on October 4th via Celebration Records. Across five songs, Adrian delves into the raw emotions of healing—ranging from anger and trauma to self-discovery and empowerment—infused with humor and intimate reflections.
The EP opens with “IMDb,” an emotionally charged track where Adrian’s lush melodies and steely guitar strums meet a catchy drum groove. Her voice, thick and expressive, carries a mix of apprehension and vulnerability. With a lovesick tone, she explores anxiety in a budding relationship, culminating in a crescendo of gnarling riffs.
In the title track “Shell,” Adrian reflects on a deeply personal and unsettling experience of harassment, set against rippling guitar rhythms. The “shell” symbolizes her emotional cocoon, and the song becomes a cathartic release as she sings about breaking free from trauma’s grip with vulnerability in her voice and diaristic lyrics.
The EP’s emotional apex, “Free of You,” reveals Adrian’s raw anguish following a traumatic experience. Opening with a stark, a cappella intro, Adrian bares her soul with a defeated tone before the guitars slowly emerge. By the bridge, her voice erupts into a powerful plea for liberation from the emotional weight she carries.
In “Appointment,” Adrian shifts the focus to the toll her trauma has taken on those around her. With soft piano and gentle guitar, the track explores how PTSD can affect personal relationships.
The EP closes with “Adult,” tackles adulthood with humor and grace. Opening with upbeat guitars and catchy rhythms, Adrian sings about the everyday struggles of self-care and personal growth.
Sasha Adrian’s Shell EP is a brave, introspective exploration of healing through trauma, anger, and self-acceptance. Check it out on Spotify.
