Ezmay Graceโs latest single โSiren Songโ from her upcoming debut album Lien Gwerin is everything youโd expect from a Cornish coastal balladeerโand then some. At first listen, itโs tender and hushed, led by soft writhing strings and a slow, delicate piano melody that tiptoes like low tide. But as Ezmayโs rich, trembling vibrato rises, the track unfurls into something darker and mythic. So what it is, is basically a chilling tale of love gone wrong at sea, soaked in blood and salt.
The song follows a female stowaway caught in the path of murderous sirens, and Ezmay sings like sheโs lived every heartbeat of the story. Her voice is equal parts mournful and hypnotic, growing more agonized with each surge, like a cry carried out over stormy waters. Itโs got that eerie, old-world murder ballad feel, but with her own fresh stamp, like if Florence Welch wandered into a 19th-century pub full of ghosts and started singing their secrets.
Ezmay Grace, known for blending folk with Americana and coastal storytelling, has been a staple in the South West music scene since her 2017 EP The Sailorโs Mistress. But with Lien Gwerin, which translates to โfolk talesโ in Cornish, sheโs giving life into ancient legends and personal hauntings alike.
With her album dropping August 12 at the gorgeous Launcells Barton in Bude, and a slot opening for folk legend Phil Beer lined up early next year, Ezmayโs siren call is only getting stronger. With this track in hand, we can tell that Lien Gwerin is going to be worthwhile. Mark the calendar for August 12 and stay tuned.
