Hailing from Wirral, England, Shaun Lewis captures rock ‘n’ roll’s raw spirit with his latest EP, SL EP 3. With modest production, this project demonstrates Lewis’s commitment to honest songwriting and visceral vulnerability, where each track shines with its own story, emotion, and relatable themes and brings out the best of the artist.
The EP opens with “Sister Flower,” an electrifying track with shrill guitar lines that pan across the stereo, immersing listeners in a hypnotic melody. Lewis’s husky, emotive voice passionately delivers a tale of infatuation and longing. The line, “Leave me alone brother, we all should love each other,” speaks to an underlying message of harmony and understanding, adding depth and relevance to this lovesick anthem.
“Death In The Dark” tackles heavier themes, inspired by violence and loss. The song builds on oscillating guitar riffs and galloping drums, with Lewis’s sharp vocals leading the charge as he sings, “Things, they could be better / Yeah, I know.” Despite its somber subject, the track offers a glimmer of hope, hinting at the potential for a better future amidst darkness.
“Last Night At Midnight” bursts with gritty guitar work over lively, bustling drums, embodying a carefree spirit. Lewis sings with abandon about a girl out of touch with reality, privileged yet striving for authenticity in a pretentious way. His voice is imbued with infectious energy, making this song both engaging and danceable—a highlight for its high-spirited delivery and biting social commentary.
The EP concludes with “I Want You.” Lewis’s voice is so deep with passion and vigor as it surges and soars at the top of his voice as he pleads for honesty from someone who plays games with his feelings. The guitars are strangely comforting and warm while slightly gritty, while the drums give just enough momentum.
SL EP 3 showcases Shaun Lewis’s knack for storytelling resonating with emotional and musical sincerity. Listen to Shaun Lewis’s latest EP on Spotify.
