Duo Broken Composers, comprised of Kirill Rave and Vitali Yu, are known for blurring the lines between art forms. Now giving you a transcendental multi-sensory experience is their latest work, “Solid Revolver.”
“Solid Revolver” immerses you in a heavy, sharp, and propulsive atmosphere and the song throws you headfirst into a swirling vortex of sound. Eerie rustling gives way to a heavy, intimidating drone that closes in on you only to have its metallic and industrial vibrations grow increasingly erratic. A sharp, shrill string pierces through the sonic fog, momentarily grabbing your attention before a pulsating synth line takes center stage, driving the music forward with relentless energy.
The soundscape is dense and unsettling. Creaking, slinking, buzzing, hissing, and glitching electronics pepper the soundscape as they writhe, pulsate and create a claustrophobic tension. The soundscape gets under your skin and forces you under the most uncomfortable moments to lead you to find beauty in them and confront your sense of self. This disorientation is entirely intentional. “Solid Revolver” is it for those willing to take the plunge.
To fully appreciate “Solid Revolver,” experiencing it within the context of the multimedia performance is highly recommended. The live performance consisted of a much more exciting, innovative and experimental display that brought out Broken Composers’ unique, geeky, yet smart sides to us. With this side, they exposed to us how much creativity can an artist present to us on the spot.
