Robert Jordan’s new single, “Song for Bob,” from his upcoming album Vincent and Theo, is an engaging and exhilarating song.
“Song for Bob” kicks things off with a full-on rock as the thumping drums, driving guitars, and soaring strings all come together to create a heavy, deep, vivid, and yearning soundscape. Then the drums give a hard pounding to make way for Jordan’s thick and rich voice to emerge singing.
As Jordan steps up to the mic, you can feel a touch of gravel that adds a whole lot of character. He turns that rockin’ instrumental up to eleven. With his delivery, they become funky, energetic and interesting. There’s a steadiness to his delivery that makes you want to lean in and listen. Meanwhile, soulful backing vocals by Boulder legend Rebecca Abraxas add a touch of sweetness to the mix.
Here’s the thing: by the end of the first verse, you’ll find yourself humming along. You’ll be singing along having memorized the lines like the back of your hand. This is a song that demands participation.
Speaking of Colorado, some big names helped bring “Song for Bob” to life. The legendary Geoff Gray recorded the track at Far and Away Studios in Boulder.
“Song for Bob” is a perfect example of what happens when a talented singer-songwriter meets a team of great music makers. Listen to the wholesome rock and roll experience of “Song for Bob.”
