Sparkle by Civil Wray: Review
The music of Civil Wray is a mixture of mood pop and slow rock. The song “Sparkle” accompanies a lovely bassline, magical synths, funky drums, and an enchanting singer directing the melody. At its core, the vocal attributes of this track pertain to a bit of shoegaze, and this is where its personality shines.
“Sparkle” has a mysterious aspect to its songwriting, and rhythm elements. Hearing it from start to finish was a trip, and it felt like going on a progressive journey where Civil Wray guided the way. The singer’s charm is deeply rooted in the sounds of dream pop, with hints of funk tagging along. The latter aspect arises from the groovy basslines that keep the flow of the track intact. Aside from that, ethereal synths greet the atmosphere of “Sparkle” and stabilize its core rhythm. The transition of this track, from its verse segments to the chorus bits have an interesting cadence. Its tempo gradually builds up and eventually subsides only to rise again. Although this is a fairly common mechanic in any song, Sparkle’s take on it was immensely graceful.
In the latter half of Civil Wray’s tune, the bass amps up, and muted guitars intermix. The synergy between both instruments were delightful to hear, especially the basslines, it was a stellar arrangement altogether. Ultimately, “Sparkle” is an ideal melody befitting the dream pop genre glowing with plenty of potential. It’s available for streaming, so head on over folks!
