Summertime by Steven Malcolm (ft Snoop Dogg and Jay-Way): Review
Following the Billboard success of his second studio album, Steven Malcolm makes an energetic summer comeback with his new single, Summertime featuring Snoop Dogg and Jay-Way. Known for the unique Christian rap style, the rapper has been making waves as one of the biggest names in the hip-hop industry with several award nominations and breaking the Billboard charts.
Released ahead of his third studio album, Tree, the song gives the listeners a glimpse of the forthcoming album. Going back to his Jamaican roots, the song has that warm summer vibe that makes the season everyone’s favorite. Summer is the best time of the year to let your hair down after a long day of work and catching on the idea, Steven, together with his childhood hero-Snoop Dogg and Jay-Way wanted to “bring an endless tune that will give people that summertime feeling over and over”, as he comments.
Quotable lyrics:
“We party like it’s summer everyday
We put the work in, now we straight
Praise God, look what he did for me”
Malcolm’s lyrical style combined with different techniques from old-school hip-hop to more contemporary rap, even incorporating melodies to bridge the verses, while switching up the gears of his fierce flow appreciating his life and the people in it, the song would appeal to old-school hip hop fans and the new age alike. Snoop Dogg’s guest verse amps up the summer vibes of the song to its peak. Each verse has a different style in the mix that really compliments each other and puts you in the mood. A great summer jam to vibe with!
