TALASย has released a new song,ย โInner Mounting Flameโ, featuring vocals by the late frontmanย Phil Naro, who passed away in May 2021. The track is a tour de force of hard rock teetering on metal.ย โInner Mounting Flameโย marksย TALASโs first taste of new music since 1984โsย โLive Speed On Iceโ.
Helmed by world renowned bassistย Billy Sheehan,ย TALASย is a unique blend of 1980s hard rock infused with the headbanging of modern metal. Cutting through this cacophony of sound is the unmistakable voice ofย Naroย who delivered a performance for the ages.
Sheehanย states: โโInner Mounting Flameโย is a bombastic, high-speed chaos of adrenaline that we would often use as our opening song at the liveย TALASย shows in 1985. We stayed close to the original arrangement.
โThis was such a blast to record, andย Philย sang his ass off on it. The song title came from a very famous fusion bandโs album title (THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRAย โย โInner Mounting Flameโ) and was our take on what that flame might be about.โ

Kings of the Buffalo bar circuit,ย TALASย slogged it out through the 1970s and 1980s, hoping for the breakthrough that never quite came. Whenย David Lee Rothย leftย VAN HALEN,ย Sheehanย immediately joinedย Rothโs band, putting an effective end toย TALAS.
In 2017,ย Sheehanย rerformedย TALASย with a lineup featuringย Phil Naroย andย Mark Miller, along with new memberย Kire Najdovski, to play at theย โBands At Barnardโย charity event in Greece. The group has played sporadic shows since then.
After frontingย TALASย in the 1980s,ย Naroย paired his powerful voice on a number of recording projects withย KISSย founding memberย Peter Crissย and later with Canadian rockersย CONEY HATCH.ย Philย also co-wrote and recorded several tracks with guitarist and founding member ofย THE RASCALS,ย Gene Cornish, and co-wrote three songs for Canadian artistย Lee Aaronย for her 1989 albumย โBodyrockโ.
Sheehanโs penchant for innovation has revolutionized the way the bass guitar is played. He formedย MR. BIGย in 1989, achieving aย Billboardย No. 1 single in the USA and 14 other countries withย โTo Be With Youโย from the bandโs secondย Atlantic Recordsย album release,ย โLean Into Itโ. While developing his trademark style of playing, he performed over 4,000 live gigs on every continent except Africa and Antarctica.
