Released on February 13, 2026, Temperament arrives as the debut full-length from UK electronic producer Chris Ami, and it is one heck of an entrance. Spanning nine tracks, the album moves through a series of emotional and psychological states, using single-word titles to sketch a loose but purposeful inner journey. Chris Ami pulls from ambient, house, and electro, yet what gives Temperament its identity is the way electronic production is constantly threaded with cello, piano, and orchestral detail. It results to sound intimate and cinematic at once, like club music reflecting on itself in the mirror at 3 a.m. For a debut, it is remarkably assured, never biting off more than it can chew, but still aiming high.
The tone is set beautifully by album opener โHubris,โ which features a licensed spoken-word sample from Alan Wattsโ โComparative Philosophy โ Seeing Through the Net.โ Over deep, slow, writhing strings and lighter, trickling textures, Watts meditates on rational control, complexity, and self-deception. It acts as the philosophical spark that lights the whole record. The track feels shadowy, intelligent, and faintly ominous, as though the album is opening a door into the mind and inviting the listener to step inside, ready or not.
Then โFlowโ changes the weather a little. Featuring Tom Eno, it rides in on a calming electronic pulse that gradually gathers force, blooming into richer waves as the beat finally drops. It is one of those tracks that sneaks up on you: understated at first, then suddenly immersive, full-bodied, and quietly euphoric. Later, โWaiting (Seventeen Revisited)โ offers one of the albumโs most graceful moments. Gentle swelling strings rise with elegance while soft melodies drift in and out, creating a reflective, tender, piece, suspended in time.
All told, Temperament is a thoughtful and emotionally tuned debut. Itโs polished, expressive, and unafraid to sit with complexity. Chris Ami is mapping states of mind, and doing so with real finesse.
