THE BEGINNING OF THE END, ALBUM BY GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT; MUSIC VIDEO “FROM DUST TO THE BEYOND” POSTED
God Is An Astronaut, the Irish post-rock maestros, come full circle in 2022, with a live studio output, The Beginning Of The End, due out on July 15 via Napalm Records, after 20 years and a solid collection of superb, renowned albums.
On October 3, 2021, the band recorded all of the songs from their debut album, 2002’s The End Of The Beginning, at Windmill Lane Recording Studio in Dublin, Ireland, encompassing each track’s evolutionary changes throughout the band’s years of live performances while allowing the original melodies and songwriting to shine through.
Stage staples like “From Dust To The Beyond” and “Route 666” get a new lease on life, with clear, transforming variants first heard during the band’s enthralling live shows now incorporated. Furthermore, each track has received technical upgrades in addition to the live additions. The band seizes the chance to breathe fresh life into these live versions, allowing them to bring more feeling, experience, equipment, and expression to the music and songs on The Beginning Of The End, 20 years later.
“”We only had limited equipment when we recorded The End of the Beginning; we couldn’t even record full live performances,” bassist Niels Kinsella explains. “The Beginning Of The End allowed us to perform the entire album live, allowing us to give the music and melodies more emotion and expression. We’re extremely excited to tell everyone about it.”
God Is An Astronaut have released a brand new music video for their re-recorded song “Otherworldly.” “The band’s somber post-rock style and a scary yet dreamy atmosphere are wonderfully balanced in “From Dust To The Beyond,” a song that has even been featured on MTV. Check out the video below.
“‘From Dust To The Beyond’ was written in 2002, inspired by past fruitless conflicts and how we are condemned to repeat our mistakes, and strangely, we are currently watching the same unfold once more!” says Torsten Kinsella.
The release of The Beginning Of The End could not have come at a better moment than now. War themes are prominent on tracks like “From Dust To The Beyond,” as well as the album’s title tune, “The End Of The Beginning,” which is based on a phrase attributed to Prime Minister Winston Churchill during WWII. These themes are represented on the album’s cover, which was designed by the band in conjunction with returning artist David Rooney and is inspired by the chaos and futility of war. The image, which depicts a war-torn concert hall and a piano, is a strong reminder that music’s power transcends war and time.
God Offers An Astronaut’s next album is a sonic portrait of the Irish post-rock band’s progression over two decades. The Beginning Of The End belongs in every well-curated post-rock album collection, since it is made captivating and memorable with live impetus.
