The Buildings Are Fake by Rachel Bard: Review
Rachel Bard shows the heartbreaking faรงade of the city of angels to the listeners in her new single โThe Buildings Are Fakeโ.
Rachel Bard wrote this song after visiting Los Angeles as a first-year film student. The imagery in her lyricism strips down the faรงade and puts forth the superficiality of Hollywood and the city that revolves around it. Itโs heartbreaking to see what lies behind all the glamour and fame. Being surrounded this glamourous Hollywood lifestyle one might even consider conforming to its norms despite having a distaste for it.
Quotable Lyrics:
โThe buildings are fake, and so is the car, electric guitar, electric cigar,
And who am I to blame?
And who am I to judge?
Oh it makes a little crack in my heartโ
This Brian McTear and Amy Morrissey-produced garage-rock anthem is a โheartbreak song about the city of angelsโ. In its organic garage rock approach, the song sounds like a nonchalant love song that turned into a breakup song as they find out itโs all lies behind the good looks. Some would say this is what it would sound like if Pixies played with Bjork and Regina Spektor as the vocalist. Although the song has nostalgic 90s qualities in its instrumentations, the honesty in Bardโs vocal deliveries gives this song a new height that is so fresh in the indie rock scene.
