The Connecting Dots Releases “Treasures In The Valley”
The Connecting Dots are a melody-driven alternative pop/rock band from Stockholm, Sweden. The band’s primary members are singer Helena Sundstrom and guitarist Johan Borg. With their broad musical backgrounds, this project might go in any direction.
Their debut album “Oblivious Beat” was composed and recorded in a few weeks, with the goal of remaining spontaneous. It became a global sensation, and then the pandemic hit, keeping The Connecting Dots busy in their Stockholm studio, resulting in another new album “Treasures In The Valley” which was published in September of 2022. This collection contains long, dreamy guitar instrumentals, synth-driven ethereal soundscapes, cozy yet ominous movie-like compositions, and rocking songs full of driving energy, all accompanied by Helena’s beautiful vocals. In many ways, their new album is a counterpoint to the previous one, with louder choruses and a deeper lyrical and musical approach, revealing the band’s tougher and rougher side.
As always, the band used Gretsch electric guitars, analog synths, and the Roland Juno-106 to make their sound distinctive for listeners. The EP is highly diversified, in all aspects you can imagine, and as cliché, as it may sound, the album showcases The Connecting Dots in their most raw form, as it features a slew of acoustic guitars in contrast to the debut electronic EP. The essence of it is truly all about growing and trying not to repeat mistakes.
