Seattle-based band, La Need Machine has released their latest jamming, humanitarian anthem, “The Mountain,” just this Aug 16.
The song starts with steady thumping drums setting a beat for us to nod our heads to. The momentum is joined by relaxing guitar strumming and Brian raspily singing soothingly over his partner Elise’s soft lulling voice underneath. Elise, with her voice, creates a soft aura around Brian’s voice, with her feminine penumbra which balances the wall of sound, the instrumentals provoke. With the harmonies vocalizing ethereally in the background, they evoke a warm and comforting vibe to this energetic anthem of giving and loving.
“The Mountain” is about giving everything you have into whatever you do and powerfully embracing the significance of reciprocated effort. The effect of giving clearly shows in this line, “But it’s all good as long as we are together.” This line suggests that with our actions, can we only prove that we are united, be we a couple, a community or any two human beings on earth whose paths have intersected.
The instrumental drive gets more intense as “The Mountain” carries on. Over buzzing guitars, the drums hit harder with sparkly, sharp cymbals crackling and sizzling up the performance with a fiery spirit. Meanwhile, the strings underneath, curve and swell with a sonorous emotional response that touches our hearts. In the chorus, Brian sings, “I will climb the highest mountain/I will swim the widest sea/I will walk from coast to coast/And I will do it all for free,” showing us that humanity should never come with a price.
