The One That Got Away by MINA: Review
“The One That Got Away” is a heartfelt RnB melody by MINA overflowing with emotions and an ambient rhythm piece. A tune appeals to the masses when its songwriting essence is top-notch, and MINA’s poetic tale is no stranger to that sentiment. Aside from that, neo-soul keys and jazzy beats grace the track’s core along with an eloquent singer owning the mic.
MINA’s stellar performance in “The One That Got Away” brings a sense of warmth. This is evident through the singer’s touching voice that grips you from the very first note. In addition to the keyboard pieces, the song’s cadence forms a bond that is pleasant to hear. Since the passionate flow of RnB is consistent in MINA’s track, other genres are introduced bit by bit too. Blue-eyed soul and even ties to easy listening can be felt in her piece, and the tempo plays an influential role in defining it. Speaking of tempo, the beat arrangement had a fantastic synergy with the song’s base and managed to keep everything grounded. “The One That Got Away” stirs up an image in my head pertaining to a lonely piano bar, and the artist’s performance resonating with folks drunk on midnight reflection. Altogether, it’s a beautiful RnB hymn that I’m confident will soothe anyone’s woes.
The aura of soul music is prominent in MINA’s “The One That Got Away.” And ultimately, it’s a wholesome melody to keep us sane in this day and age of excessive chatter and inescapable traffic.
