The Point of No Return by Garland Kelley: Review
The inspiring music of Garland Kelley never disappoints, especially for avid fans of the alternative rock genre. His track “The Point of No Return” has a powerful cadence where environmental themes are addressed on top of a gripping rock narrative. To put things into perspective, the subject matter of climate change is explored in this guitar-heavy masterpiece, along with the facets of self-destruction.
The bold lyricism in “The Point of No Return” resonated with me immensely. This is vital to mention because I was an Environmental Science major in college, and have fond memories from my time contributing to our earth’s great cause. With that being said, I’ve got also got a passion for all things rock, and Garland’s track was a treat to witness. From clean and groovy vocals to incredible guitar works, the song is a thrill from beginning to end. There’s not a single second wasted in the tune’s dynamic, and each moment feels invigorating to hear. An aggressive percussion keeps the melody in a consistent tempo, while slightly distorted guitars maintain a balance. The chord structure and lead elements are pretty fascinating. Along with some tropes from blues music joining the fun, “The Point of No Return” amounts to a worthwhile experience.
What truly caught my attention (apart from the narrative) is the teeth-grinding guitar solo. It has such a gritty tone, and the playstyle was intriguing enough to put me on the edge of my seat.
