In keeping with her promise to put pop music on the back burner, DOJA CAT chose some sizzling rap verses for her latest single, “Attention” The music video for the song, which portrays Doja wandering the streets of Los Angeles, opens with the sound of a harp before she begins to sing huskily and melancholic over a drumming. She sings in the pre-chrous, “Baby, if you like it, just reach out and pet it/This one doesn’t bite, doesn’t get aggressive.” It only requires your attention; it doesn’t need your love, as the song goes, “Show you how to touch it, hold it like it’s precious.”
In the first line, she starts rapping about herself and discusses her choice to abandon the Weeknd’s After Hours stadium tour. “My taste good, but I just had to redirect my cooking, I could’ve been an opener, I redirect the bookin” she raps. “I read all the comments saying, ‘D, I’m really shooketh’/’D, you need to see a therapist, are you lookin?’/Yes, the one I got, they really are the best/Now I feel like I can see you bitches is depressed,” the author wrote. Doja had already stated that she would be skipping the Weeknd tour due to tonsil surgery in May 2022.
She raps in the second stanza about other rappers who “fall in the beef” with famous singers. We all find it really entertainingโsorryโbecause we all watch them trip and fall on their faces, she raps. And while none of us want to be a part of it, isn’t the negative publicity beneficial? The new “Attention” video was created by Tanu Muino (Cardi B’s “Up,” Harry Styles’ “As It Was”). Doja is seen avoiding screaming fans and bystanders wearing odd flesh-colored masks in the bizarre music video, where she is wearing a white tee, pants, and leather jacket. Before making a final appearance, Doja appears briefly on the screen while naked and covered in what appears to be blood.
