9 O’Clock Nasty is giving us some sick vibes with their latest release, “The Wrong Guy(Kingflame Sound System Remix).” Released just this 10th of August, the project shows off how the Kingflame Sound System has turned their unreleased song, “The Wrong Guy” and turned it into this addictive ride. So, while you haven’t really heard the original to compare, you just know this remix is a distinguishable piece on its own.
9 O’Clock Nasty’s Brock, Pepper and Spudd has turned “The Wrong Guy (Kingflame Sound System Remix)” into a mind-bending exploration of dub, drum and bass, and experimental electronic music. Meanwhile, the instrumentals keep up a steady momentum as they groove. The song starts slow and the eerieness catches you off guard from the beginning. The music is both hypnotic and intense, drawing listeners into a hypnotic trance.
The distorted vocals and eerie sound effects create a sense of unease and mystery, adding to the track’s overall atmosphere. With echoing, hazy voice hollering “Yo,” vocalizing exotically and distortedly wording phrases like “The Wrong Guy” psychedelically, the song creates this disorderly, puzzling, disoridenting atmosphere.
The YouTube music video complements the song’s psychedelic vibe, featuring surreal imagery and repetitive scenes, like a man toppling over a maze and the awkward camera angling of the band members’ candid appearances. They contribute to the disorienting and dreamlike experience. While some of it looks unstaged, it comes together, seeming eerily aesthetic and psychedelic. It’s like a feverish visualizer that grips you in a hypnotic haze.
“The Wrong Guy(Kingflame Sound System Remix)” is available on all streaming platforms. Stay tuned because 9 O’Clock Nasty is unveiling their indie LP THIS IS CROWLAND later this year.
