Straight out of the woods of Maine and deep into your headphones, Hyporadar’s debut single “This Ain’t The Day I Die” is a slow-burning, bass-driven low rock groove that feels like a midnight drive through your own head. Hyporadar is the solo project of Shane Duquette—bassist, songwriter, producer, and reluctant frontman—who decided to go it alone after years of searching for a band that matched his gritty, genre-blurring vision.
The song opens with a moody, looping bassline that practically drips with attitude. From there, Duquette stacks in a ticking beat, smacking drums, and some clinking percussion that all add up to a sound that’s stripped-down yet dense with atmosphere. It’s rock, with a jazz heartbeat and a spoken-word sneer.
Vocally, Duquette leans into that laid-back, half-spoken delivery that feels more like a late-night confession than a chorus. When he murmurs, “Wake me up, so you know I am dead,” you listen intently, getting the issues behind the good music that explains the while totally lovin the energy.
Originally recorded entirely in Duquette’s basement, the track got a fresh shine in 2025 when Grammy-winning mastering engineer Colin Leonard stepped in and gave it a proper polish. But even with the remaster, it keeps that raw, DIY soul intact. “This Ain’t The Day I Die” is a manifesto for Hyporadar’s sound.
