Three Impossible Tasks by Amy Hopwood: Review
Amy Hopwood has explored an exotic lyrical realm in her third album โInto The Woodsโ. โInto The Woodsโ is a thought provoking masterpiece laden with fairytales. Each song in the album will enchant the listeners and tell an interesting story.
โThree Impossible Tasksโ is one of those songs. It is one of those songs where you will say, โif you start, you will not stop till you get to the endโ. The song is about a girl who finds a witch in her path in a forest and gets offered three Impossible tasks for her freedom. If she fails to complete any of these tasks she will die. The tasks are as described by the witch,
โyou must count the green leaves on every tree, and weave me a gown to make me pretty, then capture the moon and give her to meโ.
Whether she manages to complete these tasks or not that I will not tell you for you must take this journey yourself. Accompanied by an intriguing tune, the song will keep you hooked till the end.
The song is like an exciting experience, one we used to have as kids when our grandmothers used to whisper scary fairytale stories in our ears to make us sleep. Amy Hopwoodโs voice has the perfect storytelling qualities that make the song a magical experience. Some ascending arpeggios on an acoustic guitar and a cello used in the baseline gives the song a lot of character. The instrumentation is simple but in this case perfect for the cause.
Wild forests and scary witches were a part of our childhood imaginations and Amy Hopwood takes us back to that realm with โThree Impossible Tasksโ.
