San Franciscoโs own waldon.grooves bends music, stretches it, and lets it simmer until it drips with character. A guitarist and multi-instrumentalist with a knack for blending psychedelia, deep surf, blues grit, funk bounce, jazz looseness, and free-flow jam energy, he cooks up nostalgic and freshly spiked soundscapes. Thereโs always that extra dash of something in his mixes. Itโs a proprietary sonic sauce that thickens the groove and keeps it bubbling.
โTonightโ is a prime cut from that kitchen. Right from the jump, fuzzy guitars riff with a catchy, slightly woozy swagger, while thumping beats lock in tight beneath splashing cymbals that shimmer like neon on wet pavement. The groove rolls, slow and confident, pulling you along for the ride. Then the tender, lightly reverbed voice comes in, relaxed but magnetic. He sings like heโs half-smiling, half-dreaming, letting lines like โWhoโs the extra ticket for? / Hopefully sheโs a good timeโฆโ float with playful curiosity. Itโs cheeky, self-aware, and effortlessly cool. And when he tosses in โDancing in the bathroom mirror, my lipsync is pretty fire,โ you can practically see the happiness and joy found in the little things.
But the real kicker? That guitar solo. In the bridge, it comes bending and boozing up through the mix, notes warping and stretching as cymbals sizzle around it. Itโs not just technical flair โ itโs attitude. By the time the solo returns at the end, itโs even more elastic and pulsating, swinging high with frequency swooshes that feel like the song lifting off the ground.
โTonightโ is laid-back but alive, fuzzy but sharp around the edges, that feels equally at home in the show heโs singing about, a beach drive, or a late-night mirror dance session.
