Brooklyn-based producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Rich Bennett, under his alias Roman Angelos, transports us to a world of nighttime reverie and tropical wonder with his latest album, Tropical Nites. What came out of a Key West holiday, the album was conjured on a hotel balcony one night. Producer Shawn Lee has incorporated cinematic scope. Released on June 28, 2024, by Music Factory Records, Tropical Nites is your romantic relief from the heated blues.
The album opens with the lead single “Motorbike Journey,” which interprets retrospection into music and pulsates with rustling, consistent beats and glints of vibraphone that twinkle exotically. The flute swoons and wails, while the brass section heaves lazily, creating the vibe of an exotic tropical island.
The title track, “Tropical Nites,” features groovy drumming that carries the listener along on a meditative, alluring journey. The vibraphone glints mysteriously, and the flutes soar warmly, creating a soundscape that is both exotic and introspective.
“Lady Of Singapore” is a catchy tune with a lighthearted, relaxing, head-nodding beat. The rhythm section thumps along while the flute syncs its tune to the drum, adding an edgy element. Warm and relaxing trumpets top off the track, making it a standout piece that combines playful rhythms with soothing melodies.
Tropical Nites closes with “Unwritten Letters,” a gentle, soothing piece featuring soft piano at the front and center. The trumpet, and flute trail along with the piano soothingly and gently, creating an introspective summer soundscape. This final track leaves us with a sense of calm and reflection, perfectly concluding the album’s journey through tropical nights and wistful memories.
