Anoush has returned with her second album, TWO, this Sep 5. With 12 songs packed together, she showcases her bold and majestic blend of classical and modern aural fields.
TWO opens head-on with an overflow of surging and swelling piano and strings in the introductory track, “Divide & Conquer.” The classily trained singer’s voice is an instrument on its own with the thick, low, mezzo head voice. When the beats drop, the song becomes a mix of traditional with modern and the artist shows us how to make a grand orchestral arrangement catchy and hooky.
“Brave Girl” is another standout track on the album as it opens with slow lounging trails of brass over strings. With Anoush’s powerful voice drops the hard beats. The beats form a tight rhythm around which she sings hypnotically, “She’s a brave girl/She’s trying to save the world, talking about Jesus in the house of hell.” The mysticism is strangely empowering and it’s sure to get you pumped up.
“Your Letter” is a more melancholic ballad with its gentle and deep piano tones. The song’s beautiful melody is sure to tug at your heartstrings as she wonders why her beloved doesn’t write to her anymore.
“Red Roses” suspenses with cascading, haunting piano keys rippling over an immersive soundscape. In the bridge as she sings, “Off with your head,” a witchy laughter cackles in the back. The song’s magnificent yet macabre atmosphere may just creep you out.
“Obsessed” is a catchy, modern number as it piques us with a change of chiming, melodic guitar. Then the beats drop hard and Anoush sings hookily, “It might be taboo, but baby/I am obsessed with you.”
If you love gothic, lore-like and grand soundscapes with TWO by Anoush is just for you.
