With Untitled 2, KB-S offers a five-track, instrumental EP that pulses with the ache, adrenaline, and aftermath of obsessive love. Released on June 27, 2025, and recorded solo in the artist’s Minneapolis home studio, this follow-up to 2024’s “Untitled” trades in hip-hop beats for ambient trap, lo-fi textures, and soul-stung synthscapes that speak louder than words ever could. It’s minimalist in form but maximalist in emotion, quietly cinematic in the way it pulls you into the chaos of desire, confusion, and late-night spirals.
What surprised me most about the opener, “Alive Again,” was the sound effect the song started with. It gave me a trip down memory lane as I was reminded of the Space Cadet pinball machine game with the way the music zoomed in and out. But as the spacey sound zooms out, the song officially starts. The song has some eye rolling sensational warm electric guitar chimes playing and riffing engagingly over the catchy beats. It’s thrilling, like the start of something new and dangerous—flickering with light and reckless hope. But the high doesn’t last.
Track two, “Morning Star,” starts to fracture the mood, its downtempo beat and sparkly guitar taps wrapping around an immersive, evolving undercurrent. Then comes “The Heart’s Knot,” a cinematic blend of orchestral textures and warping synths that crawl into your chest and tighten—an instrumental ode to entanglement.
“After Dark Thoughts of Her” is where the sensuality creeps in slowly. Brooding and low-lit, it unfolds in tapping percussion and ambient drones, closing with ghostlike vocalization that chills as much as it comforts. By the time we reach the final track, “Rewind,” Untitled 2 has taken us through the cycle, infatuation, obsession, detachment, and nostalgia. “Rewind” questions the reality of the experience and mourns its passing while longing to relive it.
