Velvet Sunshine by Mike Tony: Review
Psychedelic rock has always been a creative outlet for many musicians due to its colorful tone and mysterious sound. Mike Tony, an artist who delves into that genre of psychedelic rock brings us “Velvet Sunshine”, a trippy tune filled with slow-paced guitars and a bit of sitar too! Aside from that, Tony’s sultry voice keeps the track in a flow that grips us from the very start.
“Velvet Sunshine” is one of those tracks with the vocal aesthetic of the Arctic Monkeys, followed by the rhythms of late 60s psychedelic bands. The melody is reminiscent of that era through its relaxed guitar and bass passages. Speaking of which, the consistency of the bass guitar adds a nice groove to Mike’s track. Simple yet effective, the instrument’s sequence captivates you, and the singer’s allure adds to that vibe. Furthermore, a jazzy percussion maintains the steady flow of the tune, and while it plays out a psychedelic sitar fills in the passages. Altogether, the melody forms a bond with the listener and takes us on a journey worth latching on to.
The music of Mike Tony is a pleasant mix of poetry and cadence. So much so, that I’d recommend it to anyone who’s willing to take a nostalgic trip back to the Woodstock era, or even hear a modern take on the psychedelic rock genre. The artist accomplishes that tone through jangly guitar bits and mysterious vocals. Altogether, it’s a solid jam!
