Venganza Del Fantasma by Love Ghost: EP Review
Let’s set the scene for ‘Venganza Del Fantasm’ by Love Ghost. Imagine that within one’s head, there is a labyrinth and a vast mystery. The tale begins with an ethereal and demon-infested village where all your secrets are kept and where the living is hesitant to visit. Those monsters grin and act identically, yet behind each face and body, they cast a long shadow, which houses the world’s greatest love and sharpest grief. The four-piece alternative rock band digs deep into the world of consciousness on their latest EP, ‘Venganza Del Fantasma’.
The EP’s four songs examine the dichotomy between Spanish and English, alternative rock and hip hop. Grunge adds a throbbing undertone of fanaticism and suffering as if the soul and blood were coursing through the veins. Lead singer Finnegan Bell’s haunting, personal vocal conveys the anxiety, mania, despair, and loss of all control against an illusory, fainting distortion of a backdrop. Warmth and chill, extremity and fragility, are all inextricably interwoven with violence and love; it just makes your heart throb while delivering the finest of emo-ish hip-hop appeal.
Love Ghost sometimes feels like they’ve articulated all the sentiments you didn’t know how to express before, and the solution is both poetically and musically. It’s that blend of emotions, midway between decay and hopelessness, sorrow and sensitivity. It’s non-linear and intricate, with everything interwoven like a thread of chaos exploding into a massive mass, while the exceptionally well-crafted acoustics and excruciatingly enticing rhythms make you want to relish every single second of it.
